The programs offered include:

Yoga Therapy: Yoga can teach you how to focus your mind to change your experience of mental and physical pain. It can teach you how to transform feelings of sadness, frustration, fear, and anger. It can teach you how to listen to your body and take care of your needs so that you can participate in the activities that matter to you. It can give you back a sense of safety and control, and courage that you need to move past painful experiences.

Recreational Therapy: Recreational therapy promotes engaging in fun sports, games and hobbies can help enhance health wellness and wellbeing. The therapies listed below promote leadership skills, socialization skills and build camaraderie. They help to address fear and anxiety, improve mood and promote healthy sleep patterns.

Relaxation Therapy: Relaxation therapy can improve mind-body awareness and reduce focus on external sensations that promote negative thoughts and emotions. The therapist will use deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery and creative visualization techniques to relieve tension, stress, and anxiety.

Performance Group: Drama therapy utilizes role-playing and acting to enhance one’s understanding and awareness of others’ thoughts and emotions. It allows patients to learn empathy when engaging in the community.

Pet Therapy: Patients will be encouraged to interact with pets in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Pet therapy provides an opportunity for patients to increase empathy, nurturing and socialization skills. It helps to decrease loneliness, increase assertiveness and reduce tension and hostility.

Music for Recovery: Music for recovery helps patients identify and express feelings through musical mediums such as drum circles, songwriting, karaoke, singing and listening. Patients work together to write, produce and record original songs. Music for recovery helps to reduce anxiety, pain, heart rate, and respiratory rate and improve mood and quality of life.

Art Therapy: Art therapy utilizes art as a non-verbal media to facilitate and enhance verbal expression, insight, and understanding. The emphasis in art therapy is in the process of art creation and how the art expresses and communicates the patients’ feelings, rather than the aesthetic quality of the artwork. Art therapy includes, but is not limited to, painting, drawing, sculpting, coloring, collage making, mixed media and arts, and crafts.

Therapeutic Writing: This group is designed to provide patients with the opportunity to explore his or her thoughts and feelings on paper. Patients can work together in a group or individually using journals and handouts to assist in creating expressive writing and poetry.

Leisure Awareness: Leisure Awareness is a process group that helps each individual identify what leisure time means for them. It increases mindfulness of interests and community resources, and develops a problem-solving approach for planning and utilizing time most effectively and pleasurably that enhances an awareness of the importance of self-care.
