Mental Health Treatment Activities

Summit Oaks provides a host of mental health treatment activities to help you or your loved one begin the journey to living a healthy lifestyle. Our therapeutic program and activity groups are designed to help each patient progress throughout their journey at Summit Oaks. Here are some highlights:

  • Develop healthy mental and physical stimulation habits that promote wellbeing
  • Be exposed to more productive leisure activities
  • Gain emotional self-awareness, increase self-esteem and focus
  • Deal with their stressors such as anxiety, anger and depressed feelings

The programs offered include:

Music Expression/Songwriting Workshops

During these workshops, patients are guided in writing a song about their feelings, pertaining to recovery and wellness.

Art Therapy

We currently have two masters-level art therapists in our department, providing therapy to our adolescents and adults.

Creative Expression

Patients are involved in journaling, poetry writing, watercolor painting, group murals, and other creative/art activities.

Recreational Therapy

We have several certified therapeutic recreational specialists on staff that guide patients in groups such as sports, games and exercise.

Meditation/Relaxation/Mindfulness

We provide many groups in this area including progressive muscle exercises, stretching, yoga (for both adolescents and adult patients), guided imagery, meditation, meditative drawing called Zentangle®, which is led by a certified art and Zentangle® teacher.

We also run groups on anger management, stress reduction and goal setting.
